This is a certificated site, so you'll need to be a Caravan and Motorhome Club member to stay, and it's properly small — maximum five outfits at a time. Tucked into Earswick, just north of York, it suits couples after a peaceful base, campervanners touring the vale, or anyone who prefers their camping low-key and uncomplicated. Tents, caravans and campervans all welcome, and because it's open year-round, you can pitch up in January drizzle or August sun.

Facilities aren't listed, so ring ahead to check what's onsite — certificated locations vary wildly. Campfires may be allowed depending on conditions, so ask when you arrive. The vibe?
