What they do

Mountain Rescue England & Wales is the umbrella body for 48 volunteer search-and-rescue teams across England and Wales. Every single team member is an unpaid volunteer. They turn out — through the night, in snow, on cliffs, in floods — when someone is hurt, lost or in trouble in the hills, the moors, the coast or the rivers. Police forces across the country call on them. None of the teams charge a penny for a rescue.

What stops you in your tracks

  • ▸Many teams also respond to inland flood emergencies and assist police searches for vulnerable missing people.
  • ▸Every £1 you donate funds the kit and training that lets a volunteer leave their dinner table at 11pm and walk into a storm so a stranger gets home.
