The 17.5km distance makes it too long for most young families, though shorter sections are manageable; uneven forest paths aren't buggy-friendly. Dogs welcome on leads to protect wildlife in this National Nature Reserve. Highlights include veteran oak trees, woodland birds, and peaceful trails away from urban Hertfordshire—excellent for a half-day immersive nature walk.

London to Walsingham - stage 02

Follows quiet lanes and field paths northeast from Essex into Suffolk, with gentle to moderate gradients and occasional stiles. Not buggy-friendly due to stiles and uneven terrain, but manageable for older children who can handle 15-20km days. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Forms part of the historic pilgrimage route to the shrine at Walsingham, passing through traditional farming countryside with medieval churches and rural villages that evoke centuries of footfall.
