Gradbach Scout Camp

The rush of the River Dane echoes through this valley campsite, tucked beneath wooded slopes where the Dark Peak meets the softer Staffordshire moorlands. Morning mist clings to the hillsides here, and there's an unmistakable sense of wilderness despite being deep in the accessible Peak District.

This is primarily a Scout camp, so availability for the general public may be limited – it's worth checking ahead if you're not arriving with a Scout group. The location is superb for walkers, with the Roaches ridge looming nearby and miles of moorland paths leading from the site. Gradbach Mill, just down the lane, marks the start of numerous classic Peak District rambles. Tent pitchers, campervanners and caravanners are all accommodated, though facilities remain purposefully simple in keeping with the outdoor ethos.

The atmosphere here leans toward genuine back-to-basics camping rather than glamping comforts. Campfires may be permitted, but check the current policy on arrival – conditions can vary. It's a place for those who prioritise landscape and adventure over onsite amenities, where the sound of the river provides the evening entertainment.
