This is proper mountain shelter — a basic refuge hut perched high in the Border hills for those walking the Pennine Way or striking out across Auchope Rig. It suits self-sufficient walkers and wild campers who know the score: carry everything in, leave no trace, share the space if others arrive after dark. You can pitch a tent outside or sleep under the roof depending on the weather and how many boots are already drying by the fireplace. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, though up here it's more about sheep-sense than paperwork.
There are no facilities to speak of — this is a bothy in the truest sense, maintained by volunteers and the Mountain Bothies Association code.
