This one works well if you're after a roof over your head without the full hotel fuss — there are camping pods for those who want something between canvas and bricks, plus proper guest house rooms if the weather turns or you fancy a lie-in with tea delivered. Chepstow's a brilliant base: you're right on the edge of the Wye Valley, close to Tintern Abbey and serious walking country, and the town itself has a proper castle and a clutch of decent pubs. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, so worth checking ahead if you're bringing one.

Facilities are straightforward — wifi if you need it, and campfires are a maybe depending on conditions, so ask when you arrive. It's a practical, year-round option that doesn't pretend to be wild camping but gets you out of the house and into one of the loveliest corners of the Welsh borders without any faffing about.
