The crunch of frost underfoot at first light, the silence so complete you can hear the burn tumbling down from the plateau — Corrour feels like the edge of everything.

This is mountain bothy country, properly remote, for hillwalkers and wild campers who know how to look after themselves and the land. You can pitch a tent nearby or use the basic shelter of the hut itself, shared with whoever else has made the walk in. It's open year-round, which means midwinter snowdrifts or high summer midges depending on when you arrive. Dogs are usually welcome but worth checking ahead, and campfires follow bothy etiquette — ask locally or check the book when you get there.

No running water, no wardens, no wifi — just you, your kit, and the hills. It's a place that rewards preparation and respect. The vibe is quiet, self-sufficient, and utterly unforgettable if wild Scottish mountains are what you're after. Pack everything in, pack everything out, and leave it as you found it.
