1066 Harold's Way

Follows the 1066 invasion route from Pevensey to Battle Abbey across East Sussex, tracing King Harold's march to meet William the Conqueror. Expect undulating terrain with moderate climbs through the High Weald, including some steep sections near Battle. The 31-mile route suits experienced walkers rather than families with buggies—mostly field paths, woodland tracks, and quiet lanes. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. A brilliant history-laden trek through quintessential English countryside.

Darnley Trail

Follows a 10km loop through Kent countryside with gentle to moderate inclines across farmland and woodland paths. Suitable for older children used to longer walks, but uneven terrain and stiles make it tricky for buggies. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Rewards walkers with rural tranquillity, ancient hedgerows, and glimpses of traditional Kentish orchards – a proper escape from nearby Medway towns without dramatic elevation.

Winds through ancient woodland on mostly flat, well-maintained paths with one gentle climb to the hilltop mausoleum offering sweeping views across Kent. Worth it for the impressive Gothic mausoleum, tranquil forest atmosphere, and easy access to varied woodland habitats without needing serious walking boots.
