The Robbers Trail

Winds through Scolty Woods on well-maintained forest paths with moderate inclines and some steeper sections near the summit viewpoint. Suitable for older children (8+) but too hilly for buggies—uneven terrain and stone steps in places. Dogs welcome on leads. Worth it for the panoramic views over Deeside from the Scolty Hill monument, plus the atmospheric woodland setting and connection to the area's historic past involving 18th-century cattle thieves who used these routes.

Beech Tree Trail

Winds through managed woodland on mostly flat, well-maintained paths suitable for families with young children and pushchairs. Dogs welcome on leads. The short loop showcases mature beech trees and mixed forest typical of Forestry Commission sites, offering a gentle introduction to woodland walking with good shade in summer and seasonal interest from spring bluebells to autumn colours.

Thyme Walk

Meanders gently along relatively flat terrain through Aberdeenshire countryside, perfect for families with buggies and young children. Dogs welcome on leads. The route takes its name from wild thyme patches that dot the path in summer months, creating fragrant purple carpets. Easy underfoot conditions and open views make this an accessible introduction to Scottish lowland walking, particularly pleasant during flowering season from June onwards.
