You wake to the sound of lions roaring across the canal — an alarm clock you'll find nowhere else in Britain.

These aren't your typical camping pods: they're proper lodges tucked inside ZSL London Zoo itself, meaning you're sleeping a few metres from giraffes, tigers, and the gorilla kingdom once the day visitors have gone home. It's a bucket-list overnight for families with animal-mad kids, or couples after something genuinely unusual in the heart of the capital. You're in Regent's Park, so Camden Market, Primrose Hill, and the West End are all a short walk or tube ride away, but honestly, most guests spend their time wandering the empty zoo at dusk and dawn — a privilege that feels wonderfully surreal.

The lodges are cosy and contained, more glamping cabin than wild camping, with proper beds and heating. Dogs are a maybe — best to ask when booking, given the proximity to wildlife. Campfires aren't standard, so check on arrival if that matters. It's open all year, and the vibe is pure novelty: urban, slightly bonkers, and absolutely unforgettable.
