Ullswater Way - Dalemain Loop

Loops through gentle parkland and woodland around Dalemain Estate with minimal elevation gain, making it ideal for families with buggies and young children. Dogs welcome on leads near grazing livestock. Offers lovely views across to Ullswater's eastern shore and passes the historic Dalemain House (worth timing with garden openings). A relaxed, mostly flat stroll perfect for introducing little ones to lakeland scenery without the usual Cumbrian climbs.

Aira Force and Gowbarrow Park Trail, Ullswater Valley

Combines woodland paths and open fell with moderate climbs—expect some steep sections near the famous Aira Force waterfall. The circular route tackles varied terrain including stone steps, forest tracks, and hillside trails with stunning Ullswater views. Not suitable for buggies due to uneven ground and stairways; families with confident walkers aged 7+ will manage fine. Follows the River Eamont through Cumbria's gentle Eden Valley, linking Pooley Bridge to Brougham Castle near Penrith. Mostly flat riverside paths and meadow tracks with excellent pushchair access along much of the route, though some sections near the castle may have stiles. Dogs welcome and will love the river access. Perfect for families wanting an easy waterside amble with historical interest at both ends – the castle ruins make a brilliant picnic spot.
