High Bowkerstead Trail (Long)

Meanders through Grizedale Forest with moderate gradients and some steeper climbs through mixed woodland. Generally suitable for older children (8+) with reasonable fitness, but terrain can be uneven and muddy after rain—not ideal for buggies. Dogs welcome on leads to protect wildlife. Forestry England waymarked trail offering peaceful forest scenery, red squirrel spotting opportunities, and a good half-day adventure in the Lake District without tackling serious fells.

Bogle Crag Trail (long)

Winds through Grizedale Forest with moderate climbs and rocky sections around Bogle Crag's distinctive outcrops. The terrain includes forest tracks and narrower woodland paths with some steep inclines – manageable for older children but not suitable for buggies. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock areas. Rewards you with atmospheric conifer forest, sculptures from the Grizedale art trail, and glimpses of Coniston Water through the trees on clearer days.
