The stone walls hold the mountain silence — no road hum, no diesel generators, just wind through the high grass and the bleat of distant sheep.
This is proper wilderness bothying for hillwalkers and backpackers who know the score: pack in, pack out, respect the space, share the refuge. There's tent pitching nearby for those who prefer canvas, but most come for the shelter of the hut itself after a long day on the fells. It's the kind of place you find on OS maps with a black square and a name — basic, remote, entirely uncommercialist. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, so check before you set out with your collie or terrier in tow.
Inside you'll find what bothies offer: four walls, a roof, maybe a fireplace if you're lucky — bring everything else yourself. Campfires depend on conditions and what you arrange on arrival, so have a stove as backup. Open all year, which means midwinter stargazers and summer solstice walkers alike. No frills, no wardens, just the hills and whoever else has walked in that day. Pack your manners along with your sleeping bag.
