Rhymney River Circular

Follows the Rhymney River through mixed woodland and open meadows with mostly flat, well-maintained paths and occasional gentle inclines. Suitable for families and pushchairs on paved sections near Cefn Onn, though some riverside stretches can be muddy and uneven. Dogs welcome but keep on leads near livestock in grazing areas. Offers peaceful valley scenery, birdwatching opportunities, and connects several parks with picnic spots – ideal for a relaxed half-day outing close to Cardiff.

Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk

Follows the ridgeline above the Rhymney Valley with steep climbs in sections and exposed, uneven terrain that's challenging for buggies and young children. Dogs welcome but keep leads handy near livestock. The elevated route rewards effort with sweeping valley views across former mining communities, connecting historic industrial landscapes with wild upland moorland. Best tackled in stages given the length and gradient changes.

Penrhys Pilgrimage

Follows a historic pilgrimage path through Rhondda Valley's upland terrain with moderate to steep climbs, particularly ascending to Penrhys itself. The route combines moorland tracks and quiet lanes with some exposed sections. Not suitable for buggies and challenging for young children due to gradients and uneven ground.
