The beam sweeps across the headland every fifteen seconds, and if you're in one of the pods, you'll drift off to its rhythm like a metronome keeping time with the sea.

This is one for couples after something different, or solo travellers who want a proper story to tell. The camping pods give you that outdoors feeling without the faff of canvas, and there's a guest house too if you'd rather have four solid walls and a proper bed. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, so worth asking when you book. WiFi means you can stay connected, though you might find yourself ignoring it in favour of the view.

It's open all year, which makes it brilliant for off-season breaks when the coast belongs to the dog walkers and the light's all moody and dramatic. Check about campfires when you arrive — they'll let you know what's possible. The whole setup's relaxed and unfussy, the kind of place where the building itself is half the experience.
