Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Classic long-distance trail experience with proper waymarking makes navigation straightforward for families with older children keen on multi-day walking.

West Highland Way (Drymen to Rowardennan)

Follows the eastern shore of Loch Lomond through ancient oakwood with steady climbs over tree roots and rocks. Terrain becomes challenging beyond Balmaha—narrow, uneven paths unsuitable for buggies or young children. Dogs welcome but must be under control near livestock. Delivers stunning lochside views and peaceful woodland walking, though this 14-mile section demands reasonable fitness and proper footwear.

John Muir Way (Balloch to Strathblane part 1)

Follows the southern shore of Loch Lomond through woodland and open meadows with gentle inclines and stunning loch views. Mostly flat terrain on well-maintained paths, suitable for families and older children, though some sections may be mudgy after rain. Dogs welcome on leads. Expect historic estates, waterside scenery, and peaceful stretches away from road noise—ideal for a leisurely half-day walk combining natural beauty with Scotland's rich heritage.
