You wake to the sound of moorland wind rattling the window frames and the distant bleat of sheep echoing across the High Peak.

This is a proper stone-built inn that's added camping pods alongside its guest house rooms, so it suits anyone who wants a night on the edge of the Dark Peak without fully committing to canvas. Good for couples after a weekend base between walks, families testing the camping-pod waters, or anyone who fancies a pint and a hot meal without leaving site. The High Peak means big skies, gritstone edges, and walking country that runs from gentle valleys to proper hill days — you're in Peak District heartland here.

It's a year-round spot, which tells you the pods are built to cope with January as well as July. Dogs are a maybe, so ring ahead if you're bringing one. Campfires depend on what they're saying when you arrive — worth checking before you pack the marshmallows. The setup feels more inn-with-extras than full campsite, which means comfort over wilderness, but sometimes that's exactly what you want.
