The gate swings open onto a proper wild pitch — just grass, sky, and the kind of silence that makes you remember why you bought that tent in the first place.

This is Upper Moat, the wilder sister site to Wowo's main field, and it's for campers who don't need much: tenters after a no-frills escape and campervan tourers happy to be off-grid for a night or two. The facilities aren't spelled out, so best to assume basics only and come self-sufficient. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, so worth a quick call before you load up the estate car.

Campfires are allowed, but check the current rules when you arrive — ground conditions and fire risk change through the season. The vibe here is quiet, low-key, and properly rural. Expect to hear more owls than other campers, pack everything you need in, and enjoy the kind of overnight that feels miles from anywhere even if it isn't. One for purists.
