Follows a disused railway line through Essex countryside on a flat, compacted surface ideal for families, buggies, and dogs. The car-free trail winds past meadows, woodland edges and small bridges, offering easy-going exercise with minimal navigation needed. Perfect for leisurely strolls or beginner cyclists wanting a traffic-free route close to nature without the challenge of hills or rough terrain.

Stort Valley Way

Follows the River Stort through 26 miles of gentle, largely flat towpath and meadows between Bishop's Stortford and the River Lee. Perfect for families and buggy-friendly throughout most sections, with easy access points if you fancy shorter stretches. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Lovely mix of waterside wildlife, historic mills, and market towns en route—ideal for a peaceful linear walk with regular pub stops.
