Morning mist clings to the valley as a woodpigeon calls from the hedgerow — this is proper Welsh hillside country, where the silence settles deep.

Cwm-clorad-isaf offers camping pods and chalets tucked into the folds of the landscape, suited to couples after a quiet escape or small families who want a snug base without the tent pegs. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, so worth asking ahead if you're bringing one. The surrounding countryside is classic mid-Wales — green, undulating, and mercifully empty of crowds — ideal for walkers who like their own company and the occasional red kite overhead.

Facilities aren't specified in detail, so it's wise to check what's provided when you book. Campfires are a maybe — ask on arrival rather than assuming. The vibe here is low-key and unpolished in the best way: you're here for the view, the peace, and perhaps a flask of tea on the pod deck as the light fades over the hills. Not a party site, not a resort — just Wales doing what it does best.

Llyn Ogwen Circular Walk, Carneddau

Circles the tranquil Llyn Ogwen on mostly flat, well-maintained paths with stunning Carneddau mountain views. Ideal for families with young children and pushchair-friendly for much of the route, though some short sections may be uneven. Dogs welcome on leads due to grazing sheep. Perfect for a gentle lakeside stroll with dramatic Snowdonia scenery without the climb, plus historic Ogwen Cottage for post-walk refreshments.

Miners' Track

Climbs steadily from Pen-y-Pass car park to Llyn Llydaw, then moderately steep to Glaslyn lake before a final rocky scramble to Snowdon summit. Suitable for fit families with older children (8+), but the upper sections are too rough and exposed for buggies or very young kids. Dogs allowed but must be confident on loose stone and comfortable with steep drops. Rewards you with stunning glacial lakes and dramatic mountain views throughout – one of Snowdon's most scenic ascents.

Crib Goch

**Not suitable for families or buggies.** This is one of Snowdonia's most notorious scrambles – a knife-edge arête with severe drops either side requiring hands-on rock climbing skills and a good head for heights. Dogs shouldn't attempt this route. The scramble links Snowdon's eastern ridges with stunning exposure and requires dry conditions, confidence on Grade 1 scrambling terrain, and mountain experience. Only for fit, experienced walkers seeking an adrenaline rush.
