Ditchling Beacon to Devil's Dyke, South Downs walk, Sussex East

Follows the dramatic ridge of the South Downs with steep climbs and descents throughout, rewarding effort with sweeping views across the Weald and English Channel. The exposed chalk paths can be challenging for buggies and unsuitable for very young children due to length and gradients. Dogs thrive on this National Trust route with plenty of space to roam off-lead on the open downland. Worth it for some of Sussex's finest panoramic scenery and iconic hillforts marking both ends.

Newhaven-Brighton Clifftop Path

Hugs the dramatic chalk cliffs between Newhaven and Brighton Marina, offering stunning sea views and fresh coastal air. Terrain is mostly flat to gently undulating on grassy clifftop paths, though some sections can be exposed and muddy after rain. Not suitable for buggies due to narrow paths and occasional steps. Dogs welcome on leads near cliff edges. The breathtaking white cliffs, wildflower meadows, and constant sea panoramas make this a memorable seaside ramble.

Valley Explorer Trail, Sussex East

Meanders gently through National Trust woodland and valley meadows with minimal incline—ideal for families, buggies (though some uneven ground), and dogs on leads. The short loop reveals quintessential Sussex countryside: ancient trees, wildflower banks, and peaceful stream views. Perfect for toddlers' first proper walk or a quick nature break between coast visits.
