The smell of toast and fresh coffee drifts up the stairs of this handsome townhouse, where antique furniture and original features give every room its own character.

This is one for couples after a proper bed and a cooked breakfast, or walkers exploring Tewkesbury and the riverside trails who'd rather not pitch canvas. The camping pod offers a middle ground — your own space outdoors but with a bit more shelter and a proper mattress. It's right on the edge of historic Tewkesbury, all half-timbered lanes and abbey bells, with the Cotswolds rolling away to the south and the Severn Vale stretching north.

Dogs are welcome by arrangement, and campfires may be possible depending on conditions — worth asking when you book. It's a genuinely year-round spot, so whether you're here for the medieval festival in summer or a quiet winter wander along the confluence, there's a warm welcome and a hearty breakfast waiting. More guest house than campsite, but none the worse for that.

Loops 3.5km through Worcestershire's gentle farmland and along the peaceful Avon, mostly flat with a few stiles to navigate. Suitable for confident walkers with older children, but buggies won't manage the field paths and riverside sections. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Enjoy lovely waterside views at the wharf itself and classic English countryside scenery – perfect for a quick escape without the crowds.

Winchcombe Way (West)

Follows varied terrain through Cotswold countryside with moderate climbs and descents across fields, woodland paths and quiet lanes. Not suitable for buggies due to stiles and uneven ground; manageable for older children used to longer walks. Dogs welcome but expect livestock in fields, so lead required.
