The Tame Way - River Route

Follows the River Tame for 18 miles through surprisingly green corridors between Birmingham and Tamworth, mostly flat along towpaths and riverside tracks. Suitable for families and buggies on paved sections, though some stretches can be muddy after rain. Dogs welcome throughout. Excellent for spotting wetland birds and wildflowers in reclaimed industrial landscapes, with plenty of spots to break the route into shorter loops.

Colebridge Way

Follows gentle towpaths and field edges through Warwickshire countryside, linking villages around the Colebridge area with minimal elevation changes. Suitable for families and pushchairs on firmer sections, though some field paths may get muddy after rain. Dogs welcome throughout. Offers peaceful rural scenery, historic canal stretches, and a quiet escape from nearby urban areas without demanding climbs or tricky navigation.

The Tame Way - Canal Route

Follows the Tame Valley Canal through 19km of former industrial heartland now reclaimed by wildlife, with flat towpath terrain throughout making it ideal for families, buggies and dogs. Expect gentle, traffic-free walking past restored wetlands, wildflower meadows and heritage locks between Tamworth and the outskirts of Birmingham. Spot herons, kingfishers and dragonflies along quiet stretches where nature has overtaken history, with easy access points if younger legs tire.
