Stretches 58km across Somerset's varied terrain, mixing gentle farmland with moderate limestone ridge climbs that reward effort with sweeping views over the Mendips. Not suitable for buggies due to stiles, uneven paths and hill sections, but older children who can manage distance will enjoy it in stages. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Worth doing for the distinctive limestone geology, ancient woodland patches, and surprisingly peaceful countryside close to Bristol and Bath.

Three Peaks Walk

Tackles 27km across three steep summits with significant elevation gain throughout – this is a challenging hill walk requiring good fitness and navigation skills. Unsuitable for young children or buggies due to rough, often muddy terrain and sustained climbs. Dogs welcome but must be capable of the distance and scrambles. Worth doing for the sense of achievement, panoramic views from each peak, and genuine test of hill-walking stamina across classic West Country countryside.

River Avon Trail

Follows the River Avon through varied landscapes from Bristol to Bath, mixing towpath sections with open meadows and woodland stretches. Terrain is mostly flat to gentle with some moderate inclines around Keynsham and Saltford. Suitable for families with older children who can manage 5+ miles, though muddy patches make buggies impractical except on paved towpath sections. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Well worth it for riverside wildlife spotting, historic mills, and the dramatic Avon Go
