Walk at Badbury Rings and The Oaks, Kingston Lacy

Circles the dramatic Iron Age hillfort at Badbury Rings before looping through ancient woodland and parkland at Kingston Lacy estate. Moderate terrain with one steady climb to the hilltop ramparts, then mostly flat or gentle undulations through The Oaks. Fine for older children but the distance and hillfort ascent make it challenging for buggies. Dogs welcome on leads. Stunning 360-degree views from the rings and excellent wildlife spotting make this a National Trust classic.

Hod Hill circular walk, Hod Hill

Loops around this impressive Iron Age hillfort with steep climbs up grassy ramparts but mostly level terrain once at the summit. The ascent isn't buggy-friendly and requires reasonable fitness, but older children who can manage slopes will love exploring the ancient earthworks. Dogs welcome on leads to protect grazing livestock and ground-nesting birds.
