South West Coast Path (Section 2: Porlock Weir to Lynmouth / Lynton)

Climbs dramatically along sheer coastal cliffs with several punishing ascents and descents through deep combes—this is arguably the toughest stretch of the entire South West Coast Path. Steep gradients and exposed clifftop sections make it unsuitable for young children and impossible for buggies. Dogs welcome but must be fit and agile. Rewards include breathtaking views across the Bristol Channel, ancient oak woodlands clinging to valley sides, and spectacular waterfalls at Watersmeet near Lynmo

King Charles III England Coast Path: Minehead to Combe Martin

Follows dramatic clifftop terrain along the Exmoor coastline with several steep ascents and descents through wooded combes. Not suitable for buggies or very young children due to challenging gradients, uneven paths, and cliff edges. Dogs welcome but must be under close control near livestock and cliff edges. Rewards walkers with stunning coastal views, rare wildlife, and varied landscapes from beaches to ancient woodland.

Watersmeet to Ash Bridge circular walk

Loops through stunning ancient oak woodland along the East Lyn River, mostly on well-maintained National Trust paths with moderate inclines and occasional stone steps. Suitable for older children but tricky for buggies due to uneven terrain and narrow riverside sections. Dogs welcome on leads. The dramatic river gorges, mossy rock formations and Watersmeet House (NT tearoom) make this a classic Exmoor valley walk with proper wilderness feel despite the short distance.
