Corpse Road and Tumuli Walk, North Lakes Outdoors
Follows an ancient corpse road used to carry the dead to Wasdale Head church, passing Bronze Age burial mounds and stone circles. Moderate 5.8km route with some gentle climbs across open fellside – stunning Wastwater views but exposed terrain means it's better suited to older children with stamina rather than toddlers or buggies. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. A fascinating glimpse into Lakeland's pre-Christian history with dramatic mountain backdrops throughout.
