Avebury Ridgeway Walk

Follows the ancient Ridgeway path across gently rolling chalk downland with some moderate climbs. The well-maintained track is mostly firm underfoot but can get muddy after rain, making it tricky for buggies – better suited to steady walkers aged 8+. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Spectacular views over Avebury's prehistoric landscape and surrounding countryside make this a rewarding half-day walk through 5,000 years of history.

Wansdyke Path

Follows an ancient Anglo-Saxon earthwork through rolling Wiltshire countryside with moderate inclines and open farmland sections. The 13km linear route isn't suitable for buggies due to uneven ground, stiles, and field paths that can get muddy. Dogs welcome but keep on leads near livestock. Offers genuine historical intrigue as you trace this mysterious defensive boundary, plus sweeping downland views that reward the climbs.

Kennet and Avon Canal Trail

Follows the historic canal towpath for 140km between Reading and Bath, almost entirely flat and surfaced with compacted gravel or tarmac. Perfect for families, buggies, and dogs on leads, with locks, aqueducts, and canalside pubs breaking up the journey. Most tackle it in sections rather than one go—the Caen Hill flight of locks near Devizes and Dundas Aqueduct are highlights worth planning around.
