Too steep and uneven for buggies. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. The reward is Selworthy's impossibly picturesque thatched village and sweeping views across the Vale of Porlock to the Bristol Channel—quintessential Exmoor scenery that justifies every uphill step.

Selworthy and Bury Castle circular walk

Climbs steadily through ancient oak woodland to Bury Castle Iron Age hillfort, then rewards with sweeping views across Porlock Bay and Exmoor's heather-clad hills. The ascent is moderately steep with uneven forest paths and open moorland sections – not suitable for buggies or very young children. Dogs welcome on leads near grazing livestock. Worth it for the stunning coastal panorama and the atmospheric hillfort ruins at the summit.

Walking in Exmoor: Day One
