The Butcombe Trail

Winds 74km through rolling North Somerset countryside with moderate inclines and occasional steep sections, particularly around Burrington Combe. Not suitable for buggies due to stiles, uneven terrain and field paths that get muddy. Dogs welcome but must be under control near livestock. Links picturesque villages, ancient woodlands and limestone gorges, offering varied scenery and plenty of spots for pub breaks. Best tackled in shorter sections rather than one go.

The Mendip Trail

Traverses the iconic Mendip Hills across Somerset, mixing open limestone plateau with wooded combes and dramatic gorges. Expect moderate to steep climbs in sections, particularly around Cheddar and Burrington, with long stretches across exposed upland requiring decent fitness. Not suitable for buggies or very young children due to uneven terrain, stiles and elevation changes. Dogs welcome but keep on leads near grazing livestock, common throughout.
