The scent of malt hangs faintly in the Speyside air here, where the hills roll green above the River Spey and distillery pagodas dot the skyline.

Craigellachie Lodge offers both guest house rooms and camping pods, making it a flexible base for couples exploring whisky country or walkers tackling the Speyside Way. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, so this works well for those touring the Cairngorms with a four-legged companion. The village itself sits at the heart of Scotland's most famous whisky trail, and anglers will find the Spey within easy reach — one of the great salmon rivers, with fishing access nearby for those who've come with a rod.

Facilities aren't detailed, so check directly what's included with your pitch or room. Campfires may be allowed depending on conditions — ask when you arrive. It's a year-round spot, quieter than the big holiday parks, with that Speyside mix of hill air, river valleys, and the warm glow of a region built on water, barley, and oak.

Ben Rinnes Trail

Climbs 400m to a 840m summit in the Moray hills with steep, rocky sections near the top—not suitable for buggies or very young children. Dogs welcome but keep them close around livestock on lower slopes. The panoramic views from the summit cairn stretch across Speyside to the Cairngorms and north to the Moray Firth, making this a rewarding challenge for confident walkers and older kids who can handle the ascent.

Speyside Way

Follows the River Spey through Scotland's whisky heartland over 207km of mostly flat to gently rolling terrain, passing distilleries, forests, and coastal clifftops. Not suitable for buggies due to length and occasional rough sections, but manageable for older children tackling shorter segments. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock and wildlife areas. Worth it for the distillery visits, dramatic Moray coast views, and chance to walk one of Scotland's most accessible long-distance trails through
