King Charles III England Coast Path: Aldeburgh to Southwold

Follows Suffolk's striking Heritage Coast for roughly 20 miles along clifftops, beaches and shingle banks between two charming seaside towns. Terrain mixes flat coastal paths with gentle undulations; some stretches cross loose shingle that's tricky for buggies and tiring for small children. Dogs welcome but keep on leads near nesting birds (spring/summer). Delivers big skies, RSPB Minsmere nature reserve, colourful beach huts at Walberswick, and proper coastal wildness – excellent for birdwatche

Pink Trail, Dunwich Heath

Loops 3.2km through National Trust heathland with gentle rolling terrain and occasional short climbs. Wide, well-maintained paths suit families with sturdy buggies, though some sandy sections can be tricky. Dogs welcome and love the open heath. Delivers stunning coastal views across to Sizewell, purple heather in late summer, and excellent birdwatching – skylarks, stonechats and Dartford warblers thrive here. Peaceful Suffolk scenery without serious effort.

Wartime Trail, Dunwich Heath

Explores coastal heath and wartime history through gentle, well-maintained paths with a few short inclines. Perfectly manageable for families with older children (5+), though uneven terrain and narrow sections make buggies impractical. Dogs welcome on leads to protect ground-nesting birds. Combines stunning North Sea views with remnants of WWII defences including gun emplacements and observation posts, plus chance encounters with Exmoor ponies grazing the heathland.
