Follows flat, paved paths and grassy fields around historic Tewkesbury, tracing the 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury with interpretation boards marking key sites. Entirely suitable for families, buggies and dogs on leads. Minimal incline throughout, mostly along the River Severn and Abbey grounds. Worth doing for the blend of medieval history and peaceful riverside scenery, with several spots to pause at battle markers and abbey views.

Three Choirs Way (Hollybush to Gloucester)

Tackles varied terrain from the Malvern Hills ridgeline down through gentle farmland and woodland to Gloucester Cathedral, mixing steep initial climbs with flatter valley sections. Suitable for older children with stamina but not buggies due to rough paths and stiles. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Links three cathedral cities with superb ridge views, ancient woodlands, and historic villages—a proper long-distance sampler covering 35+ miles if walked entirely.

Glevum Way

Follows the Roman route between Gloucester and Cirencester across 42km of rolling Cotswold countryside with moderate climbs through working farmland and quiet villages. Best tackled in sections – the full trail's too long for young children, though individual stretches work for older kids with stamina. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Rewards walkers with panoramic views, historic market towns, and a genuine sense of treading ancient footsteps through quintessential English landscape.
