Dogs welcome to join this peaceful ramble. Expect muddy patches after rain near the water's edge. The draw is tranquil valley scenery, occasional wildlife spotting, and a proper escape into the Monmouthshire borderlands without serious climbs.

Three Castles Walk (Monmouthshire)

Traces a challenging 19-mile circular through rolling Monmouthshire countryside linking White, Skenfrith and Grosmont castles. Expect moderate to steep climbs across farmland, woodland paths and quiet lanes with some muddy stretches after rain. Not suitable for buggies; older children who manage long distances will cope but it's a full day's commitment. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Rewards you with Norman castle ruins, sweeping valley views and proper medieval atmosphere in three remark

Bracelands to the Wye

Winds through ancient Bracelands woodland in the Forest of Dean before descending to the River Wye's scenic banks. Expect moderate inclines with some steep sections near the river, plus tree roots and uneven forest paths. Suitable for older children but not buggies. Dogs welcome on leads through woodland areas. Rewards you with stunning river views and a real sense of Forest of Dean heritage, combining mossy oak groves with dramatic riverside scenery.
