This is proper family territory on the Solway coast — grass pitches for tents and campervans, many with electric hook-up if you need it, and the kind of sandy beach where kids can safely spend whole days building dams and hunting crabs. Dog walkers should ask about the policy before booking, but the coastal paths around here are spectacular, winding through gorse and heather down to hidden coves. It's a quieter corner of Dumfries and Galloway, well away from the crowds, with the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park just inland if you fancy some serious stargazing.
