Valley Woodland Trail

Meanders through mixed woodland with gentle, mostly flat terrain punctuated by a few moderate slopes—ideal for families with confident walkers aged 5+, though uneven tree roots make buggies impractical. Dogs welcome on leads to protect ground-nesting birds. Offers peaceful shade, seasonal bluebells, and the chance to spot woodland wildlife including deer and various bird species, making it a lovely sensory escape from nearby towns.

Woodcock Trail

Winds through mixed woodland with gentle gradients and well-maintained paths, ideal for families and buggies on drier days. Dogs welcome to explore the birdsong-filled canopy and seasonal wildflowers. Short enough for little legs, yet peaceful enough to feel properly immersed in nature. The trail's named after the elusive woodland bird—keep eyes peeled at dusk for a lucky sighting.

Churnet Way

Follows the scenic Churnet Valley through Staffordshire, weaving between riverside paths, old railway trackbeds and woodland trails with moderate inclines around Consall Forge and Froghall. Mostly suitable for families, though some sections near the gorge are uneven and steep – buggies better on the flatter canal stretches. Dogs welcome throughout. The riverside scenery, historic mills, and possibility of spotting kingfishers make this a rewarding country walk with plenty of picnic spots.

Peak District Boundary Walk Stage 16

Tackles 18km of moorland and valley terrain with steep climbs and descents across classic Peak District landscape. Not suitable for buggies or young children due to length, elevation changes and potentially rough, exposed paths. Dogs welcome but keep on leads near livestock. Rewards experienced walkers with dramatic views, varied scenery and a proper hill-walking challenge through one of England's most iconic national parks.
