Kennet and Avon Canal Trail

Follows the historic canal towpath for 140km between Reading and Bath, passing through gently rolling Wiltshire countryside with virtually flat, well-maintained surfaces throughout. Perfect for families, buggies, and accessible bikes – the level terrain means even young children can manage sections comfortably. Dogs welcome and often off-lead where safe. Highlights include the Caen Hill flight of 29 locks near Devizes, pretty market towns like Bradford-on-Avon, and canalside pubs every few miles

Wansdyke Path

Follows an ancient earthwork running east from Bath, mixing gentle farmland stretches with moderate climbs offering sweeping valley views. The 13km route suits older children and confident walkers but isn't buggy-friendly due to stiles, uneven terrain, and muddy sections after rain. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Rewards you with tangible history beneath your feet and surprisingly big Wiltshire skies for a half-day adventure.
