Hudeshope from Middleton Geotrail

Follows the beck through quiet moorland valley with steady but manageable inclines on grassy paths and some rocky sections. Not suitable for buggies or very young children due to uneven terrain and stream crossings. Dogs welcome but keep on leads near grazing sheep. Worth it for the remote Pennine scenery, geological features including limestone outcrops, and excellent wildlife spotting in this lesser-known corner of Teesdale.

Low Force Geotrail

Follows the River Tees through stunning North Pennines scenery to Low Force waterfall over moderate terrain with some uneven, rocky sections and gentle inclines. Not suitable for buggies due to rough paths and natural obstacles, but manageable for older children who are steady on their feet. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. The geological features and dramatic waterfall make this a rewarding short walk showcasing the area's UNESCO Geopark status.

Tees Railway Path

Follows a flat, traffic-free former railway line alongside the River Tees for nearly 10km, perfect for families with buggies and young children. The smooth, wide surface makes it ideal for pushchairs, bikes, and dogs on leads. Expect gentle riverside scenery, occasional wildlife, and easy access points throughout. Worth doing for a stress-free outing where the kids can safely roam ahead and you won't battle hills or stiles.

High Force Geotrail

Follows a moderately steep trail through ancient woodland and riverside paths to one of England's most spectacular waterfalls, dropping 21 metres into a plunge pool. Terrain includes rocky sections and steps, making it challenging for buggies but manageable for older children (age 8+) with decent footwear. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. The geological formations and dramatic gorge views make this a standout walk in the North Pennines AONB, though it gets busy at weekends.
