The sound of the River Annan runs through Moffat town just beyond the park boundary, and on still mornings you can hear the ravens calling from the hills that cup this old spa town on three sides.

This is proper Southern Uplands territory — walkers tackle the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall or head up into the Moffat Hills, while tourers use it as a base for exploring Dumfries and Galloway's quieter corners. The park takes tents, campervans and caravans year-round, so it suits anyone from winter wildcampers to families doing the school-holiday Scotland loop. Moffat itself is a five-minute walk — handy for provisions and a proper wander.

Facilities are straightforward: toilets and showers onsite, and you'll need to check about campfires when you arrive. It's a functional, no-frills sort of place with a slightly old-school touring-park feel, but the location does the heavy lifting — hills on the doorstep, town close enough to matter.
