Glyncorrwg Ponds

The forest closes in tight around Glyncorrwg Ponds, and if you wake early enough, you'll catch mist rising off the water before the mountain bikers have even unzipped their tents.

This is Afan Forest Park territory—proper South Wales valleys scenery, all steep-sided and pine-dark—and the site pulls in everyone from trail riders nursing their quads to families wanting a bit of woodland camping without going fully wild. There's space for tents, campervans, and caravans, so you get a good mix of folk, though the vibe leans outdoorsy given what's on the doorstep. The Afan trails are legendary if you're on two wheels, but walkers get plenty out of it too—old mining paths, waterfalls, that particular Welsh valley quiet.

You've got toilets and showers onsite, which covers the basics well enough, and campfires are worth asking about when you arrive as policies can shift. It's not fancy, but it doesn't try to be—just a solid, tree-shadowed spot where you pitch up, sleep sound, and wake to birdsong and the faint rush of water somewhere below.
