Pencraig Campsite

The sound of curlews carries across the headland, and on clear mornings you can watch the sun lift over Snowdonia from your tent door.

Pencraig sits on the Isle of Anglesey, that low, wind-scrubbed island off the North Wales coast where you're never more than twenty minutes from a beach. It takes tents, campervans and caravans, so there's usually a good mix — families with awnings pitched for the week, couples in vans doing the coastal circuit, the odd solo walker tackling the Anglesey Coastal Path. The island's known for its string of sandy bays, ancient burial chambers tucked into farmland, and that particular Welsh light that makes everything look twice as green.

Facilities are straightforward: toilets and showers onsite. Campfires are worth asking about when you arrive, as policies can flex depending on conditions. It's the sort of place that feels properly Welsh without any fuss — sheep in the next field, sea air in your lungs, and space to breathe.
