Walton Heath Trail

Winds across open RSPB heathland with mostly flat terrain and well-maintained paths, though some sections can be muddy after rain. Suitable for families and buggies on main tracks, though rougher paths may challenge pushchairs. Dogs welcome but must stay on leads to protect ground-nesting birds. Offers excellent birdwatching opportunities including nightjars and woodlarks in summer, with sweeping views across the Somerset Levels and chance to spot grazing ponies maintaining the habitat.

East Deane Way

Meanders through Somerset's rolling countryside with moderate hills and occasional steep sections through ancient woodland and farmland. Mostly suitable for older children but not buggy-friendly due to stiles, uneven paths and field crossings. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock. Worth doing for varied landscapes, panoramic views across the Blackdown Hills, and peaceful rural character away from busier trails – proper walking boots essential after rain.
