Follows gentle riverside paths and quiet lanes through Somerset's Levels landscape, mostly flat with occasional shallow inclines over stiles and field edges. Perfect for families with older children who can manage gates, though pushchairs will struggle on uneven ground and narrow sections. Dogs welcome but keep leads handy near livestock in grazing fields. Worth it for big skies, wetland birdlife, and peaceful countryside that feels miles from anywhere despite easy access.

Leland Trail

Buggies will struggle on some uneven sections and stiles. The route connects villages and historic sites around the Polden Hills, offering peaceful farmland views and glimpses of local wildlife. Worth doing for an easy-going exploration of rural Somerset's quieter corners, though waymarking can be patchy in places.

Stour Valley Way

Follows the River Stour for 100km through Dorset's gentle chalk valleys and water meadows. Predominantly flat terrain makes this superb for families and accessible for buggies on many sections, though some riverside stretches get muddy. Dogs welcome throughout. Highlights include Cranborne Chase, historic Blandford Forum, picturesque Sturminster Newton, and abundant wildlife including kingfishers and otters. Best tackled in day-long sections rather than one epic trek.
