South West Coast Path (Section 7: Instow to Westward Ho! )

Follows the Taw estuary along mostly flat, paved paths and sandy sections – ideal for buggies, families, and dogs. Terrain is gentle with minimal incline, though beach stretches can be soft underfoot at times. Offers sweeping coastal views across to Appledore and Braunton Burrows, with plenty of spots to let children explore rock pools and sandbanks. Popular for its accessibility and stunning estuary scenery without the challenging climbs found elsewhere on the South West Coast Path.

Appledore Community Trail

Loops through this historic shipbuilding village along the Torridge Estuary with flat, paved paths perfect for buggies and young families. Dogs welcome on leads near the quay. Expect stunning estuary views, colourful cottages, and glimpses of maritime heritage including old shipyards and boat builders still at work. Ideal for a gentle waterside stroll with cafés and pubs en route, plus opportunities to watch wading birds at low tide.

South West Coast Path (Section 8: Westward Ho! to Clovelly)

Follows dramatic clifftops along North Devon's heritage coast with steep, challenging ascents and descents throughout. Not suitable for buggies or young children due to rugged terrain, exposed drops, and lengthy distance between villages. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock and cliff edges. Rewards effort with stunning Atlantic views, secluded coves, and arrival at picture-postcard Clovelly village clinging to its cobbled hillside.
