South West Coast Path (Section 7: Instow to Westward Ho! )

Follows the Taw estuary on mostly flat, paved paths and quiet lanes before climbing moderately to Westward Ho!'s pebble ridge. Perfect for families and buggies on the estuary section, though the later climb requires more effort. Dogs welcome throughout this coastal stretch. Rewards you with wide estuary views, birdwatching opportunities at Northam Burrows, and the dramatic two-mile pebble beach at Westward Ho! – one of North Devon's most distinctive coastal features.

Appledore Community Trail

Loops through this historic North Devon village, taking in waterfront views along the Torridge Estuary and quaint cobbled streets. Flat, paved terrain makes it ideal for buggies and young families. Dogs welcome on leads through the village. Perfect for combining maritime heritage with gentle riverside walking – spot boats in the working harbour and grab fish and chips at journey's end.

South West Coast Path (Section 8: Westward Ho! to Clovelly)

National Trails

Follows dramatic North Devon coastline with steep, challenging ascents and descents through wooded combes and exposed cliff sections. Not suitable for buggies or young children due to rugged terrain, rocky steps, and significant elevation changes. Dogs welcome but must be kept under control near livestock and cliff edges. Rewards with stunning Atlantic views, secluded pebble beaches, and the picturesque harbour village of Clovelly with its cobbled streets tumbling to the sea.
