South West Coast Path (Section 7: Instow to Westward Ho! )

Follows the Taw estuary on flat, easy paths with long stretches along sandy beaches and a promenade – perfect for families with buggies and young children. Dogs welcome year-round on most sections, though summer beach restrictions may apply at Westward Ho! Enjoy expansive estuary views, birdwatching opportunities, and a straightforward seaside stroll linking two characterful North Devon coastal villages. Minimal elevation makes this one of the gentlest Coast Path sections.

Appledore Community Trail

Loops through this historic shipbuilding village on the Torridge Estuary, mixing level waterfront paths with gentle climbs to viewpoints over the estuary and out to sea. Perfectly suitable for families and buggies on most sections, though some narrower alleyways may require lifting. Dogs welcome throughout. Combines maritime heritage with excellent birdwatching opportunities and charming cobbled streets lined with Georgian cottages—ideal for a leisurely exploration of one of North Devon's pretti

South West Coast Path (Section 8: Westward Ho! to Clovelly)

Follows dramatic North Devon cliffs with steep, sustained ascents and descents—definitely not suitable for buggies or very young children. Dogs welcome on leads near livestock and cliff edges. Terrain varies from woodland paths to exposed clifftop tracks, often muddy after rain. Stunning coastal views, hidden coves, and the picture-perfect village of Clovelly (cobbled streets, steep descent) make this a classic but challenging section. Experienced walkers only; good fitness essential.
